Modern British Army TRF’s Brigades

We’re proud to announce that Miliblog was approached about two years ago by Oxford Diecast who were interested in adding a military vehicle range to their fantastic collection of diecast models. Where many manufacturers had concentrated on tanks and armoured vehicles, Oxford Diecast wanted to concentrate on the soft skins and above all British ones too !
So Miliblog has been working closely behind the scenes with those brilliant people at Oxford Diecasts with ideas for different military models and colour schemes in a constant 1:76 scale, which is the same scale of most model railways. We’ve even let them borrow the photo at the bottom of Miliblog’s page for their military range packaging !
The first model has been launched and it is absolutely superb. A Bedford MWD 15cwt GS complete in the Mickey Mouse camouflage used in the Normandy campaign in 1944 after the D-Day landings.
Other models to follow are an AEC Matador, a Scammell R100 Pioneer, a Scammell SV/1T Heavy Recovery Crane and an Austin Light Utility all in different liveries along with many more exciting models in the pipeline ! Have a look at www.oxforddiecast.co.uk for further details.

Now we’ve added lots more models to the Oxford range. The AEC Matador has now been released in both North West Europe colours and Western Desert sand colours too. Also we have the cute little Bedford MWD in a nice desert sand and a very unusual RAF brown. Most people think the RAF had blue vehicles during WW2, but that wasn’t the case. An unusual vehicle for us to include is the Bedford OWB single bus. Both in postwar Royal Navy colours and wartime brown livery of the Ministry of Supply and used to transport workers to factories.

We’ve also added some of the older Oxford Diecast models which while not being flagged under their Military range, they are super little models of a RAF Standard Vanguard staff car and also an army bomb disposal Morris Minor 1000 Traveller complete with bright red wings.

Loads of nice ex army stuff working hard to earn a living in civi street

NEW THIS MONTH – MARCH 2012

Hello there and welcome back to Miliblog !!!
First let’s start with a big thank you to all you fellow military vehicle people out there who have been visiting Miliblog during our horrendous year. Thanks to some nasty person over in the Far East, who gets fun from hacking into people’s websites and messing them all up, Miliblog has been here but without any new items being added for you.
Hopefully our website gurus have done marvellous work and now we are back !!!
So how have you all been while we’ve been away ? I know we’ve been busy collecting and buying loads of new stuff that we can’t wait to share with you and don’t forget our ‘new images’ tab will show you all the new items that have been added.
We’ve also created a new original WW2 photos menu, as we felt they may have been hidden in the main galleries. We’ve been buying
original photos from WW2 showing not only rare and unusual vehicles but also the troops that used to drive them. So watch this space over this year as we bring them to you.
Just to start you off gently, below is one from our Maltese Army set and features a Land Rover Airportable, or Lightweight and then followed by an unusual Land Rover Defender 90 in an interesting camouflage scheme.

Dam Busters, The – Special Edition *Digitally Remastered* [DVD] [1945]
Something of a cult item among British war movies (and brilliantly spoofed a few years back by a lager ad), The Dam Busters turns a minor World War II incident into a saga of heroic stiff-upper-lippery in the classic British style. A bombing raid is proposed on a strategically vital Ruhr dam, but its position is inaccessible. Enter eccentric inventor Dr Barnes Wallis (Michael Redgrave in best daffy professor mode) who comes up with a genius idea–a bomb that will bounce on water like a skimmed pebble. Naturally the top brass pooh-pooh it, but gallant Wing Commander Guy Gibson (Richard Todd) is persuaded, and between them flyer and boffin forge ahead. The touches of carefully understated emotion now verge on self-parody, but it’s hard not to get caught up in the narrative sweep, especially when the bombers take off on their mission and Eric Coates’ stirring march hits the soundtrack.

Reach for the Sky [DVD] [1956]
Reach for the Sky was a box-office hit in 1956 and rightly remains a fondly regarded classic of British cinema. Kenneth More is ideally cast as Douglas Bader, the gifted pilot who loses both legs in a pre-war air crash, only to play a major role in the Battle of Britain, rise to the rank of Group Captain and become a war hero. Based on Paul Brickhill’s biography, this is an “official” history maybe, but Lewis Gilbert’s screenplay and direction are historically accurate and informed by that very British humour, of which More was a natural. The film is graced by a decent supporting cast and a typically “widescreen” score from John Addison.

Well here we want to bring a whole different side to the military, and that’s a mixture of funny stories and facts and figures that will make us smile !

Next is an RAF one:-
Conversation overheard by a civilian airliner on the VHF Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz flying from Europe to Dubai
Iranian Air Defence – “Unknown aircraft, you are in Iranian airspace, identify yourself”
Aircraft – “This is a British aircraft, I am in Iraqi airspace”
Iranian Air Defence – You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft”
Aircraft – “This is Royal Air Force GR4 Tornado fighter. Send ‘em up, I’ll wait !”
Iranian Air Defence – (………total silence)

To start with, we have an actual quote from a US Marine Corps infantry training manual:-
“When the pin is pulled out, Mr Grenade is not our friend”
